Episode 3: “I Had to Explain What FemTech Is”: Karina Vazirova, Founder of FemTech Lab, On Products Women Really Need

Written by Vasiliki Anastasopoulou

“I had to explain what femtech is again. We’ve come a long way, but we’re just getting started.” — Karina Vazirova

After speaking with hundreds of women building the future of health, we’ve learned something simple: progress starts with a question. And often, that question is: Why hasn’t anyone solved this yet?

For many women, that question comes from frustration: symptoms dismissed, needs overlooked, or products that were clearly never made with them in mind. Real change begins when someone refuses to accept that as normal.

Mirror Talks is where those stories live. It’s where we meet women who take an industry blind spot and turn it into a mission. Founders, creators, and bold thinkers who expand what women’s health can look like, and what women can expect from it.

In this episode, we meet Karina Vazirova, co-founder and CEO of FemTech Lab, who launched Europe’s first femtech accelerator in the middle of the pandemic, and went on to support more than 70 startups reshaping how women talk about their bodies.

✨ “Covid and feminism collided”: Why Karina Built the First FemTech Accelerator

Karina didn’t plan on working in women’s health. She was running a product agency when she joined an online panel about femtech during Covid and felt something shift. It wasn’t logical; it was physical. A pull. A sense that she had found the work she wanted to give her career to.

That moment turned into FemTech Lab: a platform built to bring founders, experts, and investors together at a time when the space was still misunderstood. In the early days, Karina and her co-founder spent hours explaining that femtech wasn’t “tech made by women,” but technology addressing women’s health needs, needs that had been overlooked for decades.

Five years later, the conversation has changed. Investors now see women’s health as both a cultural shift and a commercial opportunity. Governments are paying attention. And consumers, women themselves, are asking better questions, driving demand for better solutions.

Karina believes the momentum is only growing. Her next chapter focuses on mobilizing capital and supporting companies ready to define what the future of women’s health will look like.
