"The rollercoaster of trying to conceive left me feeling scared, alone, and most of all frustrated. Figuring out my fertility was starting to consume me and I was beginning to wonder whether I’d be strong enough to make it through. From OPK test strips to medication, it felt like a whole new world to navigate and I knew I’d need support. After turning to Google to see what I could do to boost my chances of a successful pregnancy I not only found a device that answered all my questions, but a community of support too. This is my story of how I used hormone testing with Mira to plan my pregnancy, learn about my fertility, and stay connected to others going through the same thing."
Early days
"As a newly married couple, my husband and I were excited to start trying for a baby. We had been trying for almost 7 months without any luck. I know the advice is to wait until after a year of trying before seeking help, but I just felt like something was off with my periods and started searching for more information.
I had irregular periods and wondered if that could be contributing to my issues. Although I didn’t have any of the other issues associated with PCOS, the doctor diagnosed me with this hormonal condition and sent me on my way. As I would discover down the road, that diagnosis was incorrect but it did get me started on seeking out more information about my cycle and ovulation.
Thinking I had PCOS, my fertility journey turned into an emotional rollercoaster. I went through many tests and more than my fair share of self-doubt and confusion. I was doing everything I was told to do and trying everything to take charge of my fertility and plan a successful pregnancy.
I worked with two different OB/GYNs to figure out my body and come up with a system to help me get pregnant. I was dieting, working out, timing sex around my fertile window, and taking medication and I still wasn’t pregnant. Doctors couldn’t explain it and lab testing was inconclusive. Even though I tried to track my ovulation through test strips, I found them inaccurate and hard to read. I was never sure of my results and there was a lot of doubt and confusion.
After turning to Google for help on conceiving, I found the Mira device and was introduced to the idea of at-home hormone testing. Since your hormones follow a predictable path, home hormone testing would allow me to track my ovulation once and for all. By having actual hormone concentration numbers (that I could even share with my doctor), I was able to see that I merely ovulated a week later than expected.

Testing with Mira allowed me to see my full fertile window, and helped me understand my own personal ovulation pattern rather than what doctor’s thought was going on. After only a month and a half of tracking my LH and e3G hormones, I was not only more knowledgeable about my ovulation patterns but I was able to predict ovulation and see my full fertile window. It only took a month and a half of testing (sometimes twice a day) to see that I ovulated a week later than what is considered normal. This little tidbit of information was extremely valuable when it came to making the most of my fertile window and thankfully we were able to successfully conceive!"
Advice for others
"It can be hard to feel like there’s something wrong with you or things aren’t working, especially when it comes to having a baby. You’re not alone though. Look for community online so you can talk to others going through the same thing. Having someone to talk to that understands is invaluable and can help you keep your sanity. Even when you don’t feel like you are, you’re stronger than you realize! Don’t give up."
