Sam spent years on birth control after she was diagnosed with PCOS. Read on to see how she used Mira to learn her unique hormonal curve and ultimately get pregnant.
Introduction
"I was diagnosed with PCOS at 18 and like a lot of women, was immediately put on hormonal birth control to “balance” my hormones and manage my symptoms. Nearly a decade later I started trying to conceive and had no idea what to expect. Since I’d been on birth control for so long, I didn’t know much about my cycle or my hormones. Ovulation was a total mystery and even though the goal was to get pregnant, I also wanted to figure out my cycle."
Stopping hormonal contraception
"The idea of stopping birth control was scary at first. I had been using it to manage my PCOS symptoms for so long that I didn’t know what life was like without it. I had no idea what my natural cycle was like nor how long it would take to figure that out.
I stopped taking birth control in February and played the wait and see game to see what would happen with my cycle. It took nearly 45 days for it to come back and regulate without the birth control. My PCOS symptoms were waning but I had no idea what could happen. I had been googling and researching on my own when I saw a targeted ad for Mira. The idea of having hard data to understand my personal hormone curve and what was happening with my cycle drew me to the device. I did some more research and decided to take the plunge and buy the device."
My learning curve
"I had actually gotten pregnant in my first cycle after stopping birth control, but that pregnancy ended in an early miscarriage. I knew it was possible for my body to get pregnant, but I didn’t really know where to go from there.
Since I had been on birth control for so long, I didn’t know what my natural hormone curve looked like or even when I ovulated. I wanted to know what was normal or at least what was normal for me. Mira made everything very straightforward. It took the guesswork out of it and I was able to learn my own personal cycle. Turns out I had a predictable timeline of ovulation every 45 days! Keeping track of the timing of ovulation and your period is key to getting pregnant and I finally had a reliable tool to help."
Experience using Mira
"My main goal for using Mira and testing my hormones at home was to get pregnant, but the data was a huge bonus. Mira was perfect for someone like me: a data-driven person who likes to see the hard numbers. I loved being able to see my hormone curve and the different hormone levels at different times of my cycle. In fact, I loved looking at the data so much that it was easy to fixate on the numbers.

But, after seeing my hormone curve data from one cycle, it was enough to calm my fears and allow me to trust the process. I could see exactly what was happening with my body and that knowledge gave me confidence that I could (hopefully) get pregnant. I know stress can be a major fertility killer, and too much information was becoming overwhelming for me. Seeing the data helped calm those fears and helped me get over some of my anxiety. I learned not to let anxiety run the show and to trust my body."
Success

"The process of using Mira was easy and straightforward, so I was able to relax and concentrate on life rather than having my world taken over by trying to conceive. The data definitely helped calm my anxiety and let me relax so we could get on with the process. It only took 4 months, but we conceived naturally and I firmly believe it was all because of Mira. Knowing exactly when I was ovulating made all the difference so we could time our activities for the best chance at conceiving.
For me, Mira was a game changer when trying to conceive. It allowed me to have more insight into my biology and gave me a hands-on tool that I could use to not only get pregnant, but learn about my cycle and hormones."
