Introduction

The first step in trying for a baby is to stop birth control so when my husband and I knew we wanted to start trying to conceive I had my hormonal IUD removed. I was curious about my hormones and did not fully understand their role in conception. I had used other fertility trackers before, but the idea of having an at-home hormone lab was too much to resist. This is my story of how I used the Mira device to learn more about my hormones and get pregnant.

Before Mira

When I had my hormonal IUD removed, I didn’t know what to expect. I was curious about my hormonal curve and didn’t really understand the whole dance they did every month or how that related to conception. I wanted to learn more about my hormones but the options seemed limited unless I wanted to go through expensive lab tests and multiple blood draws. I started my journey with other fertility trackers to see if I could get a handle on what was going on, but they weren’t giving me the information I was looking for.

Conceiving naturally is perfectly fine and normal, but my quest for knowledge left me with a curiosity I needed satisfied. The other fertility trackers I had tried were based on generic thresholds rather than my own personal information. They only gave generic timeframes of when I was likely ovulating, rather than confirming ovulation had actually taken place.

The typical advice is that you ovulate halfway through your cycle, but even that information is based on averages and not everyone ovulates on the same timetable. As it turns out, I actually ovulate later in my cycle so by using those other trackers, I was likely missing my fertile window and thereby missing my chance to get pregnant.

Finding Mira

I felt like I was flying blind and craved more information about my cycle and hormones. I had heard about Mira so I went searching for reviews and other’s experience of using the device. I also investigated the technology behind the device and was pleasantly surprised.

Mira was the perfect solution because not only could it help me hone in on my fertile window, I could see the hormone data with actual numbers (rather than thresholds). I loved being able to see the numerical values of each hormone and compare them against other users. I could see the trends throughout the months by looking at my unique hormone data.

Like I said before, natural is perfectly fine but I loved having the data and analytics with Mira and it helped me understand how my hormones were interacting.

How Mira helped me conceive

The other fertility trackers I had used were based on thresholds and averages that I didn’t fit into. If I hadn’t used Mira I wouldn’t have known this and who knows how long we would have tried before figuring it out. As it turns out, I ovulate later in my cycle, which Mira confirmed with the data. In fact, when we finally conceived, I thought I was out of my fertile window for this cycle but continued to test just to make sure. I was convinced we had missed our window but by using Mira i was able to see that I ovulated late so it was worth it to keep trying. I’m so glad we did because we conceived!

My fertility journey has had its ups and downs, but Mira made me feel comfortable knowing the numerical values and being able to see the trends throughout the months. I was able to gain a greater understanding of my hormones and how they interact with each other too!

Advice for others

It can be so frustrating and difficult to try and understand your cycle and hope that the stars align that month. Mira took the guesswork out of all that and showed me how my hormones interact with each other and their numeric concentrations throughout the month. If you’re trying to get pregnant, keep the faith and don’t give up. It can be difficult and frustrating, but it can happen and a device like Mira can certainly help. I firmly believe that with the information and analytics from hormone testing at home, Mira helped me conceive.
