Rachael’s husband is a chef so long hours coupled with the stress of his job, she knew trying to conceive might pose a challenge. But after several chemical pregnancies, she knew she could get pregnant but needed to hone in on things. Mira helped her not only know that she was doing the right things at the right time, but eased her fears about what her body was doing. Read on to hear Rachael’s story of how she used Mira to not only predict her ovulation, but help her navigate the (sometimes) long road to conception.
Getting started
With her first, it took Rachael a healthy nine months to get pregnant, which falls well within fertility standards. But Rachael was worried that after the vasectomy reversal her husband had to conceive their first, there may be scar tissue and things might take longer. After a few months of trying, her research on the internet led her to other ovulation predictors. She used products like Clearblue for several months, but wasn’t entirely satisfied with the results and still felt like she was wanting more.
As an accountant, Rachael loves data and numbers, so when she found Mira she was overjoyed with the detail and information she could get. Being able to see the numerical hormone value was right up her alley and she loved being able to see her numbers on a graph. Unfortunately, she went through four chemical pregnancies but she took that as a sign that something was going right, it just needed more fine-tuning. With Mira, they knew they had the timing right, but she was still worried.
Although chemical pregnancies account for up to 70% of all miscarriages, these early pregnancies take their emotional toll all the same. Every time she saw that faint line on a pregnancy test, Rachael got her hopes up and her mind racing.
After undergoing several chemical pregnancies, and the toll they took, Rachael sought help from her doctor and underwent a series of tests. All of her tests turned out fine, and being able to share the results from Mira helped provide the reassurance she needed. She wasn’t sure that her doctors took her information seriously, but it still helped ease her mind to be able to share the data with them. So much of conception can feel out of your control that Mira helped her feel she had some power and could be a part of the process.
Support and motivation
Trying to conceive can feel like a lonely journey and Rachael was looking for some support. She joined the Facebook group for Mira users and found it a supportive and helpful community. She found that using Mira, she was hyper-aware of when her period was due, and having other women to bounce ideas off of and read about their experiences helped keep her hopes up. The community answered any questions she had and being able to read other success stories gave her the willpower to keep going.
Speaking of willpower, when Rachael knew her period was due it was hard not to obsessively check her numbers but she managed to hold off until the day her period was due. When it didn’t come she took a pregnancy test and was both surprised and overjoyed at the results. After going through so many chemical pregnancies, she had seen enough faint positive lines to know what she was looking for. Not only was this one stronger than those, but having the knowledge Mira provided gave her an extra level of confidence.
Don’t lose hope
As Rachael said, it’s easy to say once you’ve conceived, but her advice for others is to not lose hope. Especially for those over 35, it can feel like time is against you but don’t lose hope and keep trying. It can be easy to get obsessed, especially over the actual numbers, but the trend is more important. There are a lot of variables when it comes to getting pregnant and no one knows your situation better than you. It can seem like such a long journey, and being able to sum it up to a quick story doesn’t do it justice, but stay strong and keep testing.
Rachael conceived in just over a year and doesn’t feel she’d have had the success she had without Mira. With two little girls, her adventures are just beginning!
